CBS' The Young and the Restless, which recently celebrated its 50th year on television, has launched many actors' careers in Hollywood throughout its historic run, including Penn Badgley, Justin Baldoni, Eva Longoria, Shemar Moore, Vivica A. Fox and even Tom Selleck. One of its newest cast members is Mexican-born actress Zuleyka Silver, who joins us on this episode of Multicultural TV Talkto talk about her experience on the iconic series, transitioning to the fast-paced world of daytime drama, and an exciting upcoming storyline for her character, Audra Charles.
Speaking on her audition process and booking the role, she recalls, "I was jumping up and down. I almost couldn’t really believe it right away, it hadn’t hit me. It was such an exciting moment. As actors we work so hard, we send in all of these [audition] tapes, and most of the time you don’t hear back. So, when you do book something, it makes it all worth it. But to get this, the biggest booking of my career thus far, was so exciting. I'm so grateful and still am."
When asked about the most shocking moments she read for her character’s arc, she teases a storyline that had just begun filming at the time of our interview. "When I first read it, I was really taken aback," she says. "Then I tried to find the humanity of my character within that storyline. You’re going to have to wait five weeks to find out what it is. It's going to be challenging but I love that because it's going to enrich me as an actor to go there and find those nuances."
The Young and the Restless is telecast weekdays at 12:30pm ET on CBS and is available to stream on Paramount+.
