NPR President/CEO John Lansing is proud to lead the only major news source that's not behind a paywall. In our Legends & Leaders conversation, John acknowledges the challenge of remaining relevant and growing audiences "in a business in which there is now no cost of entry." Lansing and the NPR team have successfully invested in and expanded core brands like Books We Love, All Things Considered, Morning Edition, Tiny Desk concerts and Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me while establishing multiple podcasts that reach large diverse audiences with an average age of 34. "All things begin with strong brands," John believes. "The doors swing open for new opportunities, for competitive advantages, for new products, and for new audiences. That's exactly what we're doing with NPR."

Brands and building brand equity have been a touchstone for John throughout his career at E.W. Scripps Television Stations, Scripps Networks and heading the U.S. Agency for Global Media under two administrations (one Democrat, one Republican). With such a legendary history, John obviously has many stories that he shares throughout our conversation, including why his college graduation from Bellarmine University was delayed until he completed coursework at age 52. The opportunity to share stories of the legends like John on whose shoulders today’s professionals stand is why I so value hosting Legends & Leaders. I invite you to link here to join me.
