Nexstar's Perry Sook on the Future of News, TV Station Business, NFL and NewsNation

In the latest of my series of Legends & Leaders interviews with media industry leaders, Nexstar CEO Perry Sook shares context on the decision to convert WGN America to NewsNation, including details on how 198 Nexstar TV stations and 5,500 journalists feed, support and promote the fledgling news network.

Sook's passion, he says, is to build the cable network to a full 24/7 news network with the unique differentiation of featuring unbiased news. "We're unique by not being an echo chamber of partisan news. We're in the largest swim lane there is at the center, and that's where we believe the greatest opportunity is." MediaVillage has also hosted NewsNation anchors Ashleigh Banfield, Nicole Berlie and Joe Donlon for conversations about the state of news and the value for consumers and advertisers. Sook shares news about Nexstar's plans and speaks out on the future of retransmission consent distribution revenues, which represent more than 50% of the company's revenues, and on the impact of OTT on TV station ratings.
