Artificial Intelligence was clearly the watchword at the 2024 MFM Annual Conference, with at least one-third of the sessions featuring AI in their title or as part of the discussion. In this post-breakout session interview, John Sanders, Principal of Bond & Pecaro sits down with Brandon Tackett, Executive Director of Finance Digital Strategy at Oracle, to uncover some of the mysteries of AI use for media and entertainment finance professionals, as presented in his “Future-Ready Finance: How AI and Gen AI Will Reposition the CFO for Value-Driven Leadership” session.

While Tackett and Sanders both agree that the hockey-stick rise of AI in nearly every industry makes it challenging to understand at times, Tackett breaks the topic into more intuitive pieces that finance teams can more readily utilize. “The most important thing for an executive to understand is the use case for AI,” Tackett asserts, noting that some of its best uses in our business are helping teams model unfamiliar revenue streams, leveraging it for back office speed and efficiency, and guiding decisions around projects, including how much money to invest and whether to buy or build content. “Your people will still be in control,” he notes. “We’re not automating decisions.
