Seth Rudetsky is so busy as a Broadway vocal coach, actor, pianist, blogger, radio host, novelist and columnist that it’s a wonder he worked in the tapings of MTV’s reality show Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods (Mondays, 10 p.m. ET). He’s the guy at the piano on the show, tweaking the girls’ singing technique and urging them to “release their need” to be perfect during auditions.
Rudetsky, who has worked with every Broadway diva including Patti Lupone, Audra McDonald, Christine Ebersole and Andrea McArdle, was in Dallas recently as accompanist and emcee of a special evening of Broadway showstoppers starring Betty Buckley (another diva and longtime friend). After opening night of the three-hour show, he stopped by Buli Café to chat with TV Maven about the MTV series. Don’t be surprised to learn that all is not it’s cracked up to be on reality TV. Faking it on an MTV show? Shocked! Shocked!
Here’s his side of the lively conversation over coffee.
