Cassidy Gifford on Her Starring Role in Hallmark's "Like Cats & Dogs"

amp8220Well the woman can talkamp8221 Cassidy laughed at my admission amp8220I get that quite a bit actually and I really think that itamp8217s sweet and endearingamp8221amp8220A lot of people might be annoyed or whatever but Iamp8217m really gratefulamp8221 she continued amp8220Iamp8217m just so blessed to have had the parents that I had and still do with my mom There is a fine line where itamp8217s like amp8216Mom come on let me figure it outamp8217 But at the end of the day sheamp8217s a mom and she wants to talk about her kids It just happens that sheamp8217s doing it on TV but I think weamp8217ve figured out a happy mediumamp8221In the film Cassidy plays Laura a freespirited dog lover vacationing at a beach town with her canine sidekick Frank Thanks to a reservation mixup Laura finds herself forced to share her rented house with catloving Spencer and his feline companion Mozart pictured below with Frank While the couple couldnamp8217t be more opposite both personally and pet wise they soon find themselves bonding in the most unlikely of circumstancesCassidy found Lauraamp8217s situation very relatable amp8220While I havenamp8217t been forced to share a place personally I do live with my brother Cody as my roommateamp8221 she revealed amp8220Heamp8217s very much like the Spencer character regimented and work oriented and very very specific while Iamp8217m a little more easygoing So we kind of have the similar clashing personalities as in the movie but I think thatamp8217s what makes it workamp8221Following a successful meeting with network executives and given her family oriented background Cassidy knew a Hallmark project would be the perfect vehicle in which to make her leading debut amp8220The meeting was so much funamp8221 she said amp8220Iamp8217d seen Hallmark Channel and knew that they were the heart of TV Thatamp8217s something I always appreciated about it because thereamp8217s such a lack of heart in so much of it todayamp8220In January I received this script and it was so sweet and funamp8221 she continued amp8220Also Iamp8217m such a dog personamp160 I grew up with dogs my entire life and this had so much heart and a lot of room for improvisation My costar Wyatt Nash pictured at top and below with Cassidyamp160and I hit it off on that first day We had a nice rapport going and figured we could play off one another and the next thing we had a really sweet little project on our handsamp8221One thing Cassidy found enticing about the project was the role reversal of dog and cat owner amp8220I was pleased about thatamp8221 she said amp8220I was the dog person while Wyatt was the cat person Usually the guy has the dog and the girl has the cat so I thought that was cool and different and it did give us a lot of room to playamp8221Thankfully for the cast and crew in Vancouver the harmonious onset atmosphere wasnamp8217t disrupted by any feuding between their canine and feline costars amp8220They just really didnamp8217t care about each other and it was sort of like whateveramp8221 Cassidy recalled amp8220Theyamp8217d arrive to the set together as they worked with the same traineramp160 They spent a lot of time together but the second they were separated they didnamp8217t want to be around each otheramp8221The same canamp8217t be said about the human cast amp8220The second I left the production I missed itamp8221 she said amp8220I was like amp8216Can we go back nowamp8217amp8221Like Cats ampamp Dogs is also a part of Hallmark Channelamp8217s global initiative to end pet homelessness and raise adoption awareness a through line of much of its April programming and something very close to Cassidyamp8217s heartamp8220Weamp8217ve all seen those heartbreaking commercials with those little faces in kennels and how horribly they are treated so oftenamp8221 she told me amp8220Itamp8217s so important for people to realize that you can save a little puppy kitty or so many different animalsamp160There are so many things going on in the country right now while weamp8217re in this disasterfilled state and all it takes is one good person to love them Itamp8217s like that with anything in lifeamp8221For Cassidy Like Cats ampamp Dogs was a learning experience filled with joy She successfully broke that old Hollywood rule of working with animals overcame the pressure of commanding a leading role and got to consume a lot of pizza and junk food while in character She also made her mom proud and that means the world to heramp8220Itamp8217s a great feeling that my mom is proud of meamp8221 she said amp8220Sheamp8217s a mom Sheamp8217s excited Sometimes a little too excited I do get nervous at times because she doesnamp8217t have too much of a filter but thatamp8217s the great thing about her sheamp8217s really honest The fact that she is so excited for me is really wonderfulamp8221With mom Kathie Lee also working with the network Cassidy couldnamp8217t help but laugh when I quizzed her about them possibly taking it over amp8220Weamp8217ll seeamp8221 she joked amp8220Hallmark is awesome and Iamp8217m just grateful to have had this
