aspireTV launched its Power Players programming hour block earlier this month with the premiere of Style Kings and Cut To It, the former of which follows the daily goings-on of interior designer Justin Q. Williams and custom clothier and stylist Dedrick Thomas, showcasing their entrepreneurial endeavors and “elevate the discourse on Black men's contribution to art and culture”, as the network describes. Joining us for this edition of Behind the Scenes in Hollywood are the series’ stars for a conversation on how the show came together, some of their proudest career achievements, and what they hope viewers take away from the series.

Angela Cannon [SVP Multicultural Networks & GM aspireTV] at aspireTV was the creative behind the idea of bringing two successful entrepreneurs in their craft, one in interior designs, one in fashion, together to create this show from a positive perspective,” Thomas shared.

The series sets itself apart from other lifestyle, home improvement, and style shows by focusing more on the two entrepreneurs' endeavors as they reflect on their careers while giving extended looks into what their typical day looks like. “What's really special about Style Kings is that it's not scripted. It's not heavily produced,” Williams said. “The cameras literally show up to where we are and film our everyday life. They probably have such a difficult time, because we film all day… and to edit that into a 30-minute show can be a huge task, but that's what I really do love about this show, that it's not heavily produced, and you are following us in real-time.”

“I think what I love so much about the show is just the authentic nature of the show,” Thomas added. “you're going to continue to see how both of our craft parallels each other but on different perspectives of life.”

While things like fashion, luxury, and design can seem very intimidating to the average consumer, Williams and Thomas make sure to make their lines of work, and the eye-catching results, seem approachable and walk viewers through the experience. “I hope [viewers] leave the show with more knowledge, feel inspired, especially from a fashion standpoint, and just be entertained. Hopefully, for younger individuals who aspire to get into these crafts, that they see two African-American males doing it, and see that it can be done, that they learn through us."

“To be able to reach so many millions and millions of people through this opportunity, and for us to potentially be able to make a difference in their lives is a humble and honoring experience for us.

Style Kings airs new episodes on Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on aspireTV.
