Leo Burnett Chicago wins Grand Prix, GSD&M named Agency of the Year; Hannah Schweitzer, TBWA\Chiat\Day Los Angeles named Emerging Strategist and Angela Rodriguez, alma DDB wins Visionary Strategist award
The 4A’s (American Association of Advertising Agencies) announced the winners of the 2024 Jay Chiat Awards on September 30, celebrating strategic excellence across 12 categories. Notable highlights include Leo Burnett Chicago, winner of the prestigious Grand Prix for the "Visionworks 'Subtitles’" campaign for Visionworks of America, and GSD&M, named Agency of the Year. Hannah Schweitzer, TBWA\Chiat\Day Los Angeleswas named Emerging Strategist and Angela Rodriguez, alma DDB,Visionary Strategist -- two new awards introduced in 2024 to recognize individual contributions to strategy. Anyone from an agency that had submitted an entry this year was eligible to nominate a strategist for these awards.
Emerging Strategist Eligibility
Individuals with 1-5 years of strategy experience in the US advertising/marketing industry and currently employed at an agency
Visionary Strategist Eligibility
Individuals with 15+ years of strategy experience in the US advertising/marketing industry and currently employed at an agency
Marla Kaplowitz, 4A’s CEO, noted the addition of three new categories this year, Emerging Trends (AI), B2B and Gaming, saying, “The addition of these categories recognizes the ingenious approaches that integrate AI seamlessly into strategic planning and campaign execution, the role of strategy in the transformative success of B2B engagement and the growing community of receptive, engaged audiences of the gaming industry.”
A panel of jurors selected 79 finalists from hundreds of entries submitted by agencies around the globe, then narrowed the list down to recognize the winners in each category.
Head juror of the Product/Service Creation category Christopher Owens who heads brand strategy at TRG and is program lead for Strategy Boot Camp at Miami Ad School said, “The Jay Chiat Awards celebrate the imagination and rigor of strategists, transforming strategy from a support role to a critical co-conspirator of advertising success. Effectiveness is a team sport in advertising and shared fluency via a lingua franca fosters collaboration among all parties.”
“Awards like the Jay Chiat Awards are our currency as strategists and the building blocks to building legacies for individuals, teams, agencies, brands and the work which will inevitably outlive us all,” remarked Rachel Pool, head juror of the Nonprofit category and head of strategy at Ogilvy New York.
